Right, the Astra is still out there as a firm favourite for my next car, but as my old car has gone, I need to find a car fairly quickly.

I need to know more about the internals of the 170bhp SRi-T.

I want to tune it to 235bhp with Courtenay, but want to make sure that NO engine components are going to feel the extra strain.

So, does anyone know what the engine, gearbox, and clutch are rated to?

Has anyone got one and had the map running for a while?

I really could do with the help, as otherwise I may well go over to the darkside, and get a Focus ST.

On he didnt just say the T word....

...the mother....

...lol

Yeah exterior wise it wont look any different so no problems there, performance will be pretty much the same, and you will get much better mileage. I dont know too much about this maybe a T9 owner will confirm but havent they got a better suspension, breaks etc than a standard SRi?

they are also lower than the VXR :P:thumbs:

200bhp remap (up from 150bhp)
eibach springs with sachs dampers resulting in a drop of 30mm
compomotive 18" alloys
Alcon front brakes comprising of 343mm discs and 4 pot calipers
Magnex stainless steel exhaust

thats the T9 upgrades

Go for the petrol turbo, at 235bhp, no diesel will keep up with it in the real world. Besides, none of the 888 CDTi's or T9's ever produced the 200bhp or anywhere near the 330lb/ft, still very quick cars though without a doubt, but they are all nearer to 185/190bhp and 280-300lb/ft.

Regarding your original question, the 170PS Z20LEL and 200PS Z20LER are mechanically identical, the 170PS is purely a software de-tuned 200PS unit.

So at 235bhp you will run all day every day without any problems at all. The only thing I would also do whilst at Courtenays, is get them to remove the balancer shaft assembly, it makes a huge difference to the way the cars rev.

They can't be that good as the VXR Z20LEH does'nt have them.

I had mine done at Courtenays over 2 years ago and the car is fab. so chuffed with the end result and would defo reccomend Jon and the boys at courtenay. No trouble at all. Only when VXL decided to update my software during a service and wiped the map did i realise what a difference it is. Needless to say i contacted courtenay and we resolved the issue without requiring me to make a 750 mile round trip to North Walsham

On a side not mine is faster that a T8 as proved on a private road between Dundee and Arbroath when the i had to Feather the throttle before passing it when he eventually pulled over....and he didnt like it too much either but still flashed me.

up to you though ... horses for courses id say.

there you go, the SRi-T is faster than a T8 with the remap

This is something I've started to toy about doing to my 200ps T. The only thing that concerns me is fuel. With fuel prices rocketing, my car is already pretty thirsty. How does it compare after a remap?

like anything it all depends on your right foot tbh, it has dipped but in all honesty the quicker the car the quicker you drive it......if i had a 1.4 then i would probably just drive normally and have fab fuel consumption but with the car remapped i find it actually asks you to drive it quicker.

The guys with the T8s will probably do this as well...Ask them how many of them when they are in the car on their own with music on dont have their sport mode on with their full power....pretty much all of them will have it on id guess.

So to cap it....the fuel economy drops slightly but only because your car is a lot faster than standard. Its a give and take issue

did'nt know that so taking my car to 200ps it would'nt stress engine parts think i might look into getting it done thaks for info(Y)

Those who have had it done, what is your proven output? Bhp and Lb/ft?

Just one question - what about the clutch?

Just one question - what about the clutch?

my clutch is still fine....no slipping or anything like that. i was told its fine but if i wanted to go above 260bhp then there is a possibility id need to uprate the clutch at some point to a VXR clutch

mine is around 243bhp........cant remember off hand what the torque is like....270lbs rings a bell dont know why. besides torque is for diesels..... if you can drive you dont need torque.....i think an F1 car has ridiculously low level of torque but driven correctly...well you see where im going. Besides who wants to sit in the same gear....thats boring.

Sorry to burst in on the thread but i also have a 170 sri and want more power but courtenay stage 1 is out of reach at the mo, cant vauxhall update the software and make it a 200 version?

On my old Z20 LET which is the exact same engine, proven 265bhp and 278lb/ft over 33,000 miles.

The first 10,000 miles were at 245bhp and 268lb/ft.

Just one question - what about the clutch?

The Z20 Clutches are good for 280bhp before they are at risk, but like everything in the tuning world, if you abuse it, it won't last 5 minutes.

Yes and no, you can't just down load the 200PS software, you need to get a 200bhp car along side.

You then need to blanc your ECU's security code and change the chassis number of the 170 cars to the chassis number of the 200PS car, install this ECU into the 200PS car and enter it's security code and you 'should' be able to programme it to 200PS.

Then delete the security code and change the chassis number, put back on your car, enter your security code and chassis number, but the ABS and TC/ESP on the 170 car will require upgrading to 200PS parameters and this is not so easy.

So in short, it is possible but not easy. You need some one who knows Tech 2 and TIS very well to do it.
