hi guys, this is my first post on here.
just wonderin is there anyhting i can buy for my astra to give a little boost. im 18 so a 1.6 was the most i could afford (insurance)
ive seen a lot of people on about the DTUK Greenbox?? is that an option??
cheers
scott
The Green box is for the Diesel so won't work on yours i'm afraid.
I have put a K + N filter on mine AND I have got a major power boost by fitting an air flow sensor from a 1.8!!
Trust me its made a huge difference.
BTW - I have the same car as you a 1.6 Life.

mate, if you want more than that, youl want an induction kit (sealed e.g. pipercross viper), an exhaust and a remap
btw, had a 1.6 4 or 5 months ago, got it 2 yrs ago. i put the induction, and a remap, made quit a difference
but youl deff want a sealed induction if your going for performance, the open inductions get get soak from the engine
Go drive a 1.6 8v Mk4 for a few days, then you'll know what a slow Astra is like.

K&N Air Filter £35.00 - £40
K&N APOLLO CIS INDUCTION KIT ASTRA MK5 £170.00
VXR Air intake pipe - £20-25 pound
As stated above there are various induction kits on the market.. im looking at them my self at the moment.
De-restrict your air box and fit a vxr air intake pipe .. links below for tutorials

Wrote that my self ^^
Do the airbox de-restriction + vxr airintake pipe + air filter = noticable difference
Do those first.. they are cheap i.e £70 total
Induction kit next any where between £80 - £250
Remove as much as you can out of your car.. lighter the better :D
Good luck :D

Tb.. you got a tutorial for your air flow censor from a 1.8 mod? Or some info.. cheers :D

an air flow sensor?
what you want that for?
Dunno .. tb said it gave him a power boost.. dunno how :-/
ive done
k&N panal filter
deristricted air box
and VXR intake
dose not give it a big boost in power but dose feel more responsive

o, i see, just read his post
it probably has to due with the amount of air the car lets into the engine. it probably has the settings of a 1.8, therefore more air gets combusted.

sounds good mate
thinking of anything else?
you should think about an exhaust (more air in, therefor makes sense for more air to go out)
then a remap :P:thumbs: (just dont let vauxhall "update" you system )
well iam savein for wheels then coilovers then zoist cat plugs then remap but it all costs so much money :'(
wot happens when they update it
Hey Guys
I had a problem with performance of my motor earlier in the year and I had a spare air flow sensor in my garage from a 1.8 so I tried that to see if there was an improvement.
The 1.8 sensor has a slightly larger intake pipe diameter than the standard one but the K+N side is fine. However I have to mate it back to the smaller inlet on the throttle body / inlet manifold assembly.
I'm trying to find a pipe which will do away with the air resonation box which is in situ on the 1.6 but the throttle body is the problem being too small for most other air pipes!!
However there is a noticable increase in performance, the car is more responsive and now i can (if I'm not careful) spin the front wheels up to third gear (from a 1.6!!) BTW the tyres are Pirelli P Zero Asimmetrico's and are new so they are not a budget tyre ie no grip!!
I have also noticed an slight increase in fuel economy particularly on a long run.
The whole lot cost me pennies - The K+N was new off fleabay a couple of years ago for £36.00 and the air flow meter was one that came as part of another fleabay bargain and as i sold the bits I didn't need it was effectively free!
I'll have to upload some photo's but I'm off to Strasbourg tomorrow until Sunday in the car so i won't be around :-(
What i will say is that if anyone is around the Birmingham area when I get back then I'd gladly let someone else try my modification on their car as you don't want to go out and buy an air flow sensor without truly knowing it works!!
Try before you buy!! LOL!!
regards
JOHN

so your saying, you get more air goinginto the engine, therefore more combustion? :P
well they will be staying away from the car then
i had a 54 plate polo with a 60mm drop and it just **** the shocks after 6 months so ill do it proper this time

is there any news about 1.8 air flow sensor?
this is an interesting modify.. but I would to know if this parts is for the 125 or 140hp version
tb10: could you tell the number parts?
My 1.6 run very poor of pertrol, I have the airbox half-de-rescricted and an air sport filter. I have tried the VXR air intake but I loose torque
it take too air so it is dangerous too
I think that the air flow sensor is a good solution to get more petrol injection

if i did the mods mentioned (de-restrict, panel filter, and induction kit) what difference to proformance would each of them make. EG 0-60, top speed and MPG.

well i have a done the vxr intake and de-risted air box wiv a panel filter and it seems to rev more freely. dont see much difference but its a lot smover and a lil noise 2.
Hey guys,
I'm a cousin from over in the US. I have an 08 Saturn (Opel) Astra with the 1.8 in it and i'm tryin to see if I can't hunt down the VXR or OPC intake pipe and also the MP3 Aux adapter but I haven't had any luck on this side of the pond. Does anyone here know of any parts companies that may carry one or both of these products that will ship overseas?
