ive heard it on cars before and i think its summit to do with air hitting the blades on the turbo or summit. probably wrong though

sounds just like mine did when i fitted an induction kit a few months ago, i took it off as the induction kit was on its last legs and it was just a temporary bit of fun with an old induction kit.
mine runs fine, and now the induction kit is off i can hear the chatter sometimes aswell as i know what to listen for.its nowhere near as loud though

thousands will argue for and against, you have the same wastegate chatter when you remove the dump valve.
my 294bhp starlet chatters and is perfect.

people make the same arguement about having a dumpvalve.

its not damaging as far as all the discusions ive read ect.

I would take the induction kit off and see how she sounds then... I would have thought its just where you have removed the air box which would normally muffle the the sound of the turbo... my old RS turbo was exactly the same, i done 40k with no probs and that was a ****** ford.... Is the induction the correct one for the car, and also make sure there are no air leaks or vacume pipes off.....

Well to be fair thats a VXR one and does have a different part number to a GSI one but i very much doubt there is much difference.... Try the standard air box and maybe a K&N panel... never been a lover of induction kits... Yea they do sound nice but dont do a great deal more than that....

Mine made exactly the same noise when i bought mine. It had a green cotton cone filter on it and the actual chattering noise sounded like it was comming back through from the filter. I have removed the cone filter and the dv that was fitted and mine still makes a chattering sound but not as loud so i assume its perfectly normal. lots of poeple on here say its normal.

Waste gate chatter isn't too damaging but what you are hearing is more likely turbo stall and isn't great for the turbo. The noise is very similar and most people confuse the 2.
